Sam Nixon was brought to our attention during the Pop Idol series of 2003. Sam has been singing since the age of 6 and at 13 he formed a band, FareView, with some friends. He taught himself to play guitar and at 16 his band was recording tracks and performing local gigs. On winning a place in the final twelve of Pop Idol, Sam's wonderful voice and unique style quickly gained him an extensive and solid fanbase and made him a firm favourite on the show. After finishing third in the competition, Sam teamed up with fellow runner up Mark Rhodes and the duo embarked on the Pop Idol Tour and had two hit singles, including a number one, before moving into TV presenting. Sam has now established himself as an accomplished and popular children’s TV presenter, having begun his TV career co-presenting Top of the Pops Saturday in 2004, followed by Top of the Pops Reloaded in 2005, where his natural style, humour and cheeky charm proved very popular with guests and viewers alike. In 2006 Sam and Mark branched out to present two live TV shows, Level Up and TMi, the latter filling the all-important Saturday morning slot. The years that followed saw Sam's career flourish as he and Mark went on to host a variety of different shows for CBBC and, with three brand new shows and the return of TMi for a fourth series, 2009 proved to be the busiest year yet for the duo. At the start of 2010 Sam and Mark continued to adorn our screens with their shows Copycats and Jump Nation, with both series reaching their conclusion in March. A further series of Copycats is due to air this autumn, and it has been announced that there is to be a fifth series of TMi starting in September, this time to go out live on Friday evenings on CBBC. To add to what is already a very exciting year for the boys, Sam and Mark have joined ITV’s This Morning summer team, appearing on the show twice a week throughout the summer series. For a complete history of all Sam and Mark's TV shows, please visit our career page. This year Sam and Mark have also taken on a brand new venture, hosting a weekly radio show that goes out live across the West Midlands on Sundays from 11am - 1pm. The show airs on BRMB, Beacon, Mercia and Wyvern radio stations, and those not living in the coverage area can listen online. Although Sam's career is now firmly in TV and radio, as a talented singer and musician he continues to hold a deep love for music and has formed a band called Mason which is purely for enjoyment. Mason performed their first gig on 2nd June 2007 at the "burn down the disco" night at The Arches, a live music venue in Barnsley, and also headlined a local mini music festival at Darton, Barnsley a month later. They continue to perform local gigs as and when Sam's busy schedule allows. For more information about Mason, please visit their Myspace profile. Aside from his all-round entertaining talent, Sam is a very affable young man and this site has pledged itself to support him all the way. |
